Dear Younger Me: Post-College Reflections

Dear Younger Me: Post-College Reflections

If I could go back four years and talk to my pre-college self, here are twenty-three things I would say:

  1. Achievements might make you happy, but only God defines your worth.

  2. Say “get to” instead of “have to.”

  3. College is a balance of striving for excellence while giving yourself grace and patience along the way.

  4. Cultivate a healthy sleep schedule.

  5. Get out of your comfort zone every day, even if it’s just saying “hi” to someone.

  6. The world needs who you were created to be.

  7. You’ll have a better day when you get up early and spend time in the Word and in prayer.

  8. Not everyone is going to like you, and that’s okay.

  9. Money can be replaced, but time cannot.

  10. Remember that mastery is a process, and practice makes progress.

  11. Learn to recognize failure as an opportunity to grow.

  12. Assignments and grades are important, but health is more important.

  13. Remember the Sabbath, to keep it holy.

  14. Spend time around people who spend time with God.

  15. It’s okay to have a stress cry when you feel overwhelmed.

  16. If you think something nice about someone, also say it to them.

  17. Make a point to remember and say people’s names.

  18. You will never regret being kind.

  19. Time is our most valuable resource.

  20. Don’t drive tired.

  21. Prioritize prayer.

  22. Keep a journal, even if you only write a few sentences a day.

  23. People need to be seen and noticed. A smile can go a long way.

Also, here are two verses:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.” James 1:2-3
