A Day in Nuremberg, Germany
In May 2023 I got to visit Nuremberg, Germany while studying abroad in Central Europe with Middle Tennessee State University. Our day included a tour of the Nuremberg Castle, a gander around the Old Town, and a walk along the Pegnitz River.
We took a train from Munich and walked through the Old Town to the Nuremberg Castle. Along the way we saw the Schöner Brunnen (“Beautiful Fountain”), the Frauenkirche (“Church of Our Lady”) and bustling Aldstadt (“Old Town”), which is famous for Christmas markets.
On our tour, we learned that the Nuremberg Castle was first erected around 1000 and was a significant location for Holy Roman Emperors in the Middle Ages. We got to see the Tiefer Brunnen (“The Deep Well”), the Kaiserkapelle (“Imperial Chapel”), and all sorts of medieval weapons. Below are some photos from the castle.
Before leaving town, we walked around the Old Town walls.
When we got back to Munich, we all ate dinner together at the famous Augustiner Keller beer garden. One of the professors was originally from Bavaria and showed us his favorite authentic dishes. I tried Agnes Bernauer Teller, as well as edelstofffrüchte, a traditional Bavarian dessert with steeped berries, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream.
