June 2025 at Swallowtail
This month I have been looking back in gratitude at how much Swallowtail Garden has thrived. Each year my garden looks a little bit different… certain plants come and go, others decide to take over and must be managed, and sometimes a friend gives me a new plant to add to the collection. However, this is the first year I have done almost nothing to my garden. Here are a few of my favorite photos from June:
Coneflowers and black-eyed susans: perennial favorites
Liatris and a cabbage white

June was especially rainy in Tennessee. Everything stayed good and lush!
Rain-soaked echinacea
Roses from the front porch
July and August are typically when we see the most butterflies, but we saw a few in June, too:

Cabbage white at liatris
Bumblebee on echinacea
Echinacea, rudbeckia (black-eyed susan), and liatris: a classic color scheme
purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea)
American goldfinch (female) at a zinnia
I have also been trying my hand at plein air painting in watercolor lately:

One of my favorite parts of June is the long summer evenings when the skies turn to lavender and fireflies glow from the fields. These are the moments to savor.
